Hours til we leave - planting the garden

It's just a few hours before we are to leave for the airport to head to the States and the 'gotta have it all done' Julie is trying to get the garden somewhat planted before we go. We've never had a real garden before so this will be a major learning experience. I've been reading and getting the garden prepared and now was the time to begin planting the seeds and a few small plants. We're mostly doing a salad garden - you know lettuce varieties, carrots, tomatoes, leeks, onions, etc. Nathan's big on the idea but when the bugs start after him he begins to peter out. What boy doesn't like bugs I ask? Nathan doesn't like them - go figure. Anyway, we were amazed at the tiny seeds and marveled to think they would be carrots later in the summer - wow! All sorts of things can go wrong, in fact after reading the gardening books, you almost don't even want to try but the garden center guy assures me he'll help me figure anything out.
I'll keep you posted.
